![]() ![]() The Toller was recognized by the FCI in 1999, but since 1945, it is an official breed for the CKC (Canadian Kennel Club). In fact, this breed has been found in England as well as in Australia, South Africa, and India for only a few years. ![]() The breed became extremely popular in the middle of the 20th century, exclusively in Canada and the United States. However, it is believed that some spaniels, such as the Pointer, the Setter, participated in its creation, along with retrievers and some Collies that were used on farms. The breeds from which the toller originated are unknown. When the birds are close enough, the Toller retreats to the blind, the hunter stands, scaring the birds into flight, and then fires. These antics draw the attention of the birds, who swim closer to shore. the dog plays at the water’s edge, romping and retrieving. The Toller was “created” because they were looking for a multi-faceted hunting dog, specialized in retrieving game prey and “ tolling” (the activity from which it derives its name). The breed was developed by the community living in Little River Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada, in the early 19th century. NATIONALITY: CANADA Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever: Origins In these places, it will be able to run and play happily, as it is in its nature as an athlete and hunter. The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever has a charming character and size, characteristics that make it not only a perfect dog for city life but also a bit more original than its retriever cousins, the Labrador Retriever and Golden Retriever.īut remember, the city will only be an option as long as you assure your Toller long walks outdoors, at the countryside, near lakes, rivers, in the mountains or at the beach. We currently have a Labrador litter available, the parents are our very own Genie and Maximus.The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, often referred to as a “Toller”, is the least known of the retriever family. They are all extensively DNA tested as well, and our Golden Retrievers have their Gonioscopy tests as well. All of our dogs are hip and elbow scored, and have eye checks every year. We health test all of our dogs to a high standard, meeting and sometimes exceeding the required and recommended testing. We use them on our own girls first, so we know they are ready and able to produce wonderful puppies. We also have some stud dogs, fine examples of their breeds who have all passed their health tests and have lovely personalities. Some of our previous puppies are training to be therapy dogs, gun dogs and some are doing well in agility, while others are much loved members of the family. Our goal is to breed healthy, confident puppies that go on to make excellent working companions or active family pets. We have a diploma in dog breeding and are currently undergoing several other qualifications involving dog training and first aid. ![]() Our animal welfare licence number is AW078. This means that the KC and the fenland council have inspected our premises and dogs and are very happy with their standard of living. In 2017 we became KC assured breeders, and in 2020 we received our dog breeding council licence, gaining the highest rating possible for a first time licence holder. Since then, we have expanded to Golden Retrievers and Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers. Despite the lack of sleep and impressive amount of poo, we decided we quite liked raising puppies, and have been doing it ever since. We began breeding in 2016 with our much loved Labrador, Coco. ![]()
